Steyn’s Nagpur effort a flash in pan, says Ganguly

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly feels Dale Steyn’s spell at Nagpur was a flash in the pan. With India having secured a massive first innings lead, Ganguly is pretty much certain India will level the series at Eden Gardens, thereby maintaining the number one spot in the ICC Test rankings.

"Look, spells of this sort happen rarely. It’s just not possible to repeat them time and again. And considering the current scenario of this game, I don’t see any other result barring an India victory," Ganguly said at the Eden on Tuesday.

Apart from a few overs towards the close of play on Monday, Steyn did not pose any problems for the host batsmen. Ganguly then lavished praise on Sachin Tendulkar saying the master will scale a peak impossible for others to reach. Applauding every boundary that the stylish V.V.S. Laxman hit on his way to an unbeaten 143, Ganguly said, "He (Laxman) is quality personified."

BCCI secretary N. Srinivasan arrived in the city on Tuesday morning to announce the Indian team for the upcoming three-match ODI series versus South Africa. He was also present at the Eden Gardens to watch the ongoing second Test and in the meantime, spent some time with a key figure of his rival faction — Jagmohan Dalmiya. It was a courtesy meeting between the two, while an official of the CAB top brass informed that "a request of sorts" for extra funds had been made to the BCCI secretary in view of the renovation process at Eden for World Cup 2011.
